In this podcast series, we are focused on leadership and how to develop, equip, and support leaders. Our focus on leadership is because leadership makes the difference in our work, in our communities, in our homes, and in our lives. Who is the hardest person to lead? If you are like me, it is yourself!
So, how do we lead ourselves well so that we can lead others well? We have to have a growth mindset. I don’t come to you as a person who has it all figured out, I come to you as a practitioner. One who has served in multiple roles and gained experience in the seat of a second chair leader. One who has earned the scars of leadership. In these podcasts, we will use the thoughts of some of the great leaders in history, some of the contemporary leaders of today, and the research and writings of the best minds around leadership to work to improve our own skillset.
How to Improve Your Communication Skills - In this episode of Innovations in Leadership Podcast, Mike teaches about how to improve your skills in communicating with others. Do you know you have a preferred communication style that is different from the other people you work with and that your style has a huge impact on how you hear and communicate with others? As leaders, we need to be able to meet people where they are to be able to connect with them. That may mean you have to adjust how you actually say things. We will invest some time into looking into this in greater detail and how our personality style has an impact on what and how we say things. Our BONUS resource for this episode is How to Improve Your Communication Skills worksheet, which includes fill-in-the-blank notes from Mike's teaching and the link to the DISC Assessment resources. You can download the worksheet by clicking “Show Notes Episode 6” below. For more about the DISC Assessments, you can also find them here.
