In this podcast series, we are focused on leadership and how to develop, equip, and support leaders. Our focus on leadership is because leadership makes the difference in our work, in our communities, in our homes, and in our lives. Who is the hardest person to lead? If you are like me, it is yourself!
So, how do we lead ourselves well so that we can lead others well? We have to have a growth mindset. I don’t come to you as a person who has it all figured out, I come to you as a practitioner. One who has served in multiple roles and gained experience in the seat of a second chair leader. One who has earned the scars of leadership. In these podcasts, we will use the thoughts of some of the great leaders in history, some of the contemporary leaders of today, and the research and writings of the best minds around leadership to work to improve our own skillset.
How to Improve Your Communication Skills: Part 2 - In this episode of Innovations in Leadership Podcast, Mike teaches part two about how to improve your skills in communicating with others. When we are in challenging conversations, we have the ability or can develop the ability to step back and answer three questions; What is the source of the conflict? How much of this do I own? and What can I do to diffuse the conflict? As leaders, we need to be able to meet people where they are to be able to connect with them. That may mean you have to adjust how you actually say things. We will invest some time into looking into this in greater detail and how our personality style has an impact on what and how we say things. In this episode, we will discuss the "I" and "C" personality types and examine some of the blind spots of each personality type. Our BONUS resource for this episode is How to Improve Your Communication Skills: Part 2 worksheet, which includes fill-in-the-blank notes from Mike's teaching and the link to the DISC Assessment resources.
